Default Help!! 2011 chrysler 200 2.4L sounds like weedwacker!!

while driving the other day i noticed my car started sounding like a weedwacker when accelerating. its really whiny sounding and weed wacker is the only way i can think to describe it! pretty sure the muffler has a hole in the top of it but wont know until i take it apart. the sound comes from under the driver seat area which is where the muffler is in the general area. i have wanted to make it sound deeper and give her that nice deep tone. any suggestions on whether to do straight pipe or different muffler. I dont want it to sound like a rice burner!!!

Just get the Magnaflow cat-back and be done with it. Direct fitment, stainless steel, 2.25" pipes (I believe)... you can find videos online if you want to hear the noise it makes.

Be a pioneer and install the RRM header for the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer... same engine, same chassis... just nobody makes headers specifically marketed for the Chrysler (that I know of).

Same block, different head.

Somebody has to be the first to try it. Lol.

Might have to pick up a Lancer exhaust gasket and compare it to a Sebring gasket... but if those holes line up, then, by god, it was meant to be...

To the problem at hand... from your description, it sounds like an exhaust leak may, indeed, be responsible for the noise you hear. I would take care of that before worrying about anything else.

Depending on your ultimate goals, budget, level of competency, and access to the right tools... there are options out there if you want to do more than fix a hole in your muffler. Like replacing the stock muffler with whatever aftermarket muffler you want that fits in the stock exhaust system.

You can get the entire aforementioned Magnaflow cat-back.

You could delete your catalytic converter, but you then need to tune it out of the ECU and/or trick the O2 sensors into not throwing a code.

And there are a few header options for Mitsubishi cars that share the same chassis/engine configuration... this in uncharted territory and may require some custom "fitment"... but is the closest thing to use as the best starting point. OBX and RRM, and I believe a company called DC also makes a header for the Lancer... RRM even offers a version for the 2.4L PZEV engines...

thank you. i got a magnaflow muffler yesterday (still have to change it) within the last year ive replaced everything except the engine and transmission! but i have also had the car for 7 years and only did the normal fixes like oil, brakes, tune-up. then in may was in a accident and a week after getting everything back together this happens!

only other problem i have is that my passenger window will go down but not back up, have changed the switch and the motor and still doesnt work

Holy crap... my passenger window will go down, but not go back up. Lol. The motor has also been replaced, and I just ordered a new switch for it... should be here today, actually. Wierd.

Did you get the whole cat-back from Magnaflow, or just the muffler?

Check the wiring where it goes into the door. The flexing there can cause breaks.

If it's the wires, themselves, is it best to just splice in a section of new wire, or is there a harness that can be replaced in its entirety?

Installed the new window switch when I got home... IT'S ALIVE!!! Pretty stoked it is not the wires/harness.

I know that doesn't help you with any of your current problems, sorry.
