Power Steering Fluig - '06 GV 2.8CRD
Morning all,
The power steering on our GV has become noisy - so I checked the level of the fluid and found it was low, no visible drips etc, but low.
The Owners Manual say it is ATF+4, so I rang the local stealer for a price to top it u[ and was told, by the Saturday girl, I need to replace it all as it was originally red, but they have now changed it to yellow, so it all needs to be changed.
At this stage all I want to do is top it up and watch for leaks, then I can change it when any replacement parts are required.
So what to use - the current fluid cannot be identified as being red or yellow - as it's looking old so what can I put in? Any ATF fluid - or a specific fluid.
Thanks
Steve

Hi,
Yes I do believe they changed, but having said that original ATF+4 you can get here in the UK relatively easily.
(Not sure if you're in the UK Steve) but if you are then ebay: ATF+4 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 0.946L - JEEP - CHRYSLER - DODGE - MOPAR | eBay
That's the ATF+4, I wasn't sure and can't look it up where I am at the moment, but that's for auto-box transmission, I didn't realise the steering fluid was the same stuff so double-check first!
I had the steering rack replaced on mine a couple of years ago under warranty when I bought it as it was leaking from one end, so that could be the issue, it was only a small leak so not much/visible but it could be the same on it's way for you.

I have no clue where my steering fluid goes, but every ~3.000 miles I start hearing my powersteering and I need to add some fluid (around 20cc)
I watched for drips or leaks but haven't found anything yet.
Ah well, I regard adding steering fluid as regular maintenance
