COULD ANY KIND PERSON TELL ME THE LOCATION OF THE THERMOSTAT ON MY 2005 2.8 DIESEL GRAND VOYAGER , AND HOW EASY IT IS TO CHANGE ? ( LOCAL MAIN DEALER WANTS £123 FOR STAT & GASKET , SAYS YOU HAVE TO BUY THE HOUSING , IS THAT RIGHT?

Dealer is correct and it is at the top, cam belt end under the wipers at the back. But why do you want to change it as they don't fail? Think I have only change 1 in 5 years.

Many thanks for getting back to me, the problem i have is that the temp. gauage never reaches the half way mark, only the the third line ,also the diesel cabin heater light stays on and does not go out unless you stop the engine and start up again ? i thought it was supposed to go off when correct temp. reached.
The heater gets warmish but seams to take a long time , not the best heater ive had in a car.
I just wondered if changing the stat would help, once again thanks for your speedy response AL

Is the water level down? Is the cabin heater working correctly as in smoke from it’s exhaust? How high do you set the inside temp? if set high this good why the light stays on a long time.

 

I have the same problem with my Voyager 2.8 crd 2004. have you ever found a solution ? David

 

i have a 2002 2.5 crd with temp issues my guage gets to first line and if its cold and your travelling then the needle drops down so its gotta be the stat

2005 2.8CRD, had my thermostat changed a couple of months ago. Temp gauge wouldn't go above 1/4, auxilliary heater on for a lot (most) of the time and the heat output was poor.
With new thermostat, temperature gauge is almost at the 1/2 way mark, auxilliary heater goes off after a few miles, if you set to "HI" heat output is very, very warm, even in the recent cold weather.

I think booke23 changed his stat and put a thread on this forum.

As a by product (I think) of the engine running hotter I have noticed a marked improvement in fuel consumption, possibly better than 10% improvement. I checked this coming south on the A1/M11 recently (sad isn't it!). With cruise control on, at 70 mph it was 38mpg, 60 was 44 and 50 was 47! Not suggesting this is in any way scientific, I only did it for about 15 mins each. I'm sure I never got that much before.

Ok just done changing the thermostat ( very limitet acces bye the way and not a job for a novice ) and it has solved the problem, temp gauge is now up half way an the aux heater also turn of much much faster.

Changed the timingbelt at the same time ( 102.000 km). didnt change the waterpump because of the price and time. hope it will hold up.
