Default 86 Laser CV Shaft HELP!!!

Ok here is the story, I was given a 1986 Chrysler Laser XT for some work I did, all it needed was a right CV Shaft, so I got one from Checker Auto and everything went together great, I backed it out of the shop and boom the shaft came apart at the tulip joint, I talked to the guy that owned it before and it turns out this is why it needed one in the first place, he had replaced it once before and turned in the original for a core so I do not have the factory shaft, and the auto store only list one shaft for the turbo motors, they don't even list the XT package as an option, only the XE. Am I doing something wrong or am I getting the wrong parts??? It just seems like the shaft is too short, any advice would be appreciated

Thanks
Michael
