Default 1994 Concorde with Mind of Its Own.

We have a 1994 Concorde that has us baffled.

It has the climate control and even though it is in auto or non-auto mode, it makes its own decision on what is going to work.

We can make it run the air, the heat, or the defroster however, it intermittenly turns off the air and turns on the front Defroster.

Would like to know if anyone has had the same problem, and the solution.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

usually its due to a bad control head (that's your buttons, **** and display). my folks have a 1994 that just did the same thing then finally is just crapped out all together. I tossed in a known good unit and all's better. The default mode if it dies is defrost only and high fan speed on hot. this is a safety feature incase it happens in winter so the driver's vision is not comprimised.

Default Control Panel

Thanks for the response.

Have three questions:

1. Is this control head peculiar to the the Concorde?
2. Is the control head repairable? Note: I ask this since I have seen other items that have a push button mode and a good cleaning of the button contacts sometimes corrects the problem.
3. Is it easy to remove without tearing down the paneling around the radio/control head complex.

Again, Thanks

1. NO
2. NO
3. YES but what do you mean tearing down the paneling? you have to remove the radio/heater trim plate which just snaps in and out. if you can't handle giving it a little tug to pop off the panel, then it's best you have a professional handle this task.

Again, you have been very helpful.

Now, one final questions:

Since this has the auto feature, will a non auto panel work?

I have priced the panel and $400 seems like a lot so I am going to try and find one in a salvage yard.

Thanks Again

I don't know why anyone would look at a dealer for a 15year old car. this is definitely a JY item. $40 is the most you should pay for this part. IDK if the manual panel would work or not.

Yes, I agree.

I looked the item up at an aftermarket supplier and they were asking $395. The Dealer as asking $500.

We will find one in the next couple of days.

Working on a broke down Exploder right now. Gotta get the tranny out and then will head to the JY's.

Thanks again.
