Default 300M -> headlight cover (instead of new unit) ?

While the front plastic fascia on my '00 300m was off, I had a look at the headlight units and it seemed that it would have been easy to remove the front or outer cover of the headlight unit and replace it.

Am I right about this - or is the outer cover somehow bonded to the inner reflector part?

If this cover is removable, then it would seem to be a no brainer to replace it (instead of trying to polish it) to restore the clarity.

But searching the internet, it seems that only entire headlamp units are being sold - not the outer cover.

So - is the outer cover removable? And if so, does anyone sell replacement covers?

Cover can be removed by heating the assembly but cover only is no longer offered by Chrysler. I have transplanted covers from new "cheapo" headlamp assemblies on to the OEM HID bodies.........

Interesting. Can you describe that process?
