Default 300m Stock Rim Question

My front driver's tire has a slow leak that I can't get to go away. When I took it into the shop, an old friend of mine told me that the rim is rotting from the inside out. He tells me that the snow and salt from the road (I live in northern Michigan) gets between the lip of the rim and the tire, and corrodes the inside of the rim. He also tells me that it's a common ailment of the 300m's stock rim.[&:]

Has any of you fine, knowledgeable Chrysler fans heard of this?

i have the same problem, though i am not sure the exact cause of it is as you mentioned...basically i add 5-7lbs of air a week....next time i have my tires rotated i will have them remount the tire to see if that helps.

I went as far as to completely replace the rims. Had discount tire ship up some OEM rims from AZ. And now I'm back in the same situation.. imagine that. 5-7lbs per week? wow... I'm up to 15-20 per week lately!

sounds like a huge waste of money...I would contact them and demand a refund...you may be out shipping costs, but any savings is good!

Smile re:300m stock rim question

pause hopefully you can get ur $ back 4 ur replacement rims you bought from az. but if you cant here what you should do go to dealer or somewhere where they change tires and have lip of rim grinded down a little because metal is flaking in this area.once this is done you shouldnt have no problems. i did this after having same problems, i live in nj where there is salt and snow also. ps i bought 20 inch rims 4 summer and i use the factory rims 4 winter

I heard that in later M,s because of cost cutting.Chrysler used plastic chrome skins on the stock rims and water gets trapped between the skin and the aluminum rim and causes corrosion and can throw the wheel out of balance.I hope this helps.

I had the same problem. When I had new tires put on, I had the installer put sealant around the bead and the valve stem. So far after a year, I haven't had to add any air except the occasional loss from weather change.

Hey I have a 2000 Concorde Lxi and my buddy has a 2002 PT Crusier and we had the same problem its true its cause the rim is rusting from the inside...all you can do is get it all cleaned up and put sealant on it, but its gonna keep on happening. Good luck man
