Default A/C Dryer and evacuation

I just changed out a compressor. When breaching the system is it necessary to change the dryer and vacuum the system? I would like to know if everything works before I invest in doing this. If I just fill it up with 134a with oil and run it will it mess it up, or just hinder the performance.

As Ive said hundreds of times to thousands of people...I would NEVER DISCOURAGE ANYONE from doing there own work....But Air conditioning is one exception....

Cold air is not worth Frostbitten and blind....

Now , with that out of the way....Technically ....The Dryer "should" be changed, when opened to atmosphere, But you have a bigger problem.....WHY DID YOU SWAP THE COMPRESSOR????...A clutch failure is one thing...But internal Damage Generously distributes the Carnage to all of the other parts....Including your NEW compressor, when the metal fragments get stirred up....

As for evacuation....Absolutely....Not only does the air that infiltrated the system contain moisture, But it takes up space....Space that is technically required for freon charge...And will very quickly cause an OVERPRESSURE situation with only a small amount of freon...Overpressure and Doityourself Charge kits dont play well together....
