heater wont turn off

heater wont turn off
hi all
any ideas why my heater won't turn off?
I've got the digital type heater controls on my 96 concorde lx. Temp controls seems to work fine as do the direction buttons.
My speed dial doesn't seem to work properly and the off button - although it turns the display off, it doesn't stop the blowers!
Any help would be appreciated.

RE: heater wont turn off
You likely have a bad ATC head unit (ATC=Auto Temp. Control)
Here is how to check:
1) Start Vehicle
2) Set the temp to 75 deg.
3) Press and hold floor,mix, and defrost at the same time until display starts to flash. (this also recalibrates the mode doors)
4) If codes are present, only one code will show at a time. To toggle through codes press the bottim left button.
Description of codes:
23=A/C Blend door feedback failure
24=A/C Mode door Feedback failure
25=Ambient Sensor
26=ATC In car sensor
27=Sun Sensor Failure
31=A/C Recirculation Door stall Failure
32=ATC Blend Door Failure
33=ATC Mode Door Failure
34=Engine Temp Message not Recieved
35=Evaporator Sensor Failure
36=ATC Head Communication Failure
To clear codes: Remove negative battery cable for 15-20minutes.
I would bet from the problem you are describing, that you will get code 36. Easiest fix is to go the local junkers and grab a new/used head for a few bucks.

RE: heater wont turn off
wow - thanks very much.
Will try it out tomorrow.
FYI - I picked up a new control unit from junk yard on weekend but it didn't make a difference!! I was hopeing it was just the speed dial that had gone faulty.
Do I have to reprogram the new unit for it to work?

RE: heater wont turn off
OK I tested unit as described by LHS (many thanks for that) and it did indeed return error 36 (Faulty ATC Head).
So I replaced unit with one from junkers yard and now when testing unit I get no error codes.
However I still can't control blower speed or switch it off!
Any other ideas?
