LHS brake problem

Pedal on this 99 model, was very stiff and braking seemed a little weak, if you push the pedal hard and fast it would free up and have nice feel for a while, then it would go back to the same thing. about a week ago light pressure slowed the car normally but if more pressure was required it took 2 feet to stop the car. It sounds like the primary circuit in the mastercylinder is bad. I'm thinking replacing the master cylinder is the next step since I have no codes stored, does this sound correct?

U wont have any codes for a system that is mechanical and no sensors
Plus u would need a scanner that can get into the abs system not the engine computer.

abs

it has abs that wouls require a few sensors

CHRYSLER TECH 02-19-2012 05:28 AM

the wheel speed sensors are only used to see if one or more wheel is moving faster then they others then the abs system applies brake pressure to slow the faster slows down there are no other sensors in the system for brake pressure like what u are experiencing. Most people go through there whole cars life with out ever having experienced using the ABS system so it is vary rarely used.
Yes u would need a scanner that would work only for the ABS system that system is not a federal mandated setup that everyone needs to be able to look at for for every day use.

abs

i understand how the system works, just wondering is the issue im experiencing sounds like a master cylinder

power brake booster

just wanted to make sure its not the power brake booster

CHRYSLER TECH 02-19-2012 08:48 AM

your power brake booster is not electrical as well it vacuum controlled

keithm 02-19-2012 10:31 PM

is there any reason I should assume that the hard pedal with almost no braking would be the power booster?

CHRYSLER TECH 02-19-2012 11:17 PM

Possible if u replace the booster replace the master cyl while u are there
