Default Rocker Arms.

I have a 2002 Chrysler Concorde with the 3.5 Engine. When you first start the motor it has a tapping noise on top for a few seconds like a lifter bleeding off.It stops after a few seconds. Will this hurt the motor until I can come up with the funds to repair.Has anybody replaced both rocker arm assemblies, and did this help your problem.Replacing both rocker arm assemblies is 500.00 plus just for parts not including gaskets and labor. Thanks for any replies,Just trying to spend my dollars wisely.

Many 3.5's from that era do that. A TSB was issued to fix the problem. Many have run for a long time as long as the noise goes away after 2-3 seconds should be ok. Both my M's do it (140k/160k) usually most noticable when due for oil change.
TSB NUMBER: 09-002-04 SUBJECT:
Short Duration Cold Engine Start-up Ticking Like Sound

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the swivel pads and swivel pad retainer on the exhaust rocker arms.
