Default Transmission dead?

Hi. I have a '94 LHS. I was driving it yesterday at about 55mph and kicked it down and ran it up to 70mph at which time it felt like the tranny dropped down a gear, when it reached 70. I came to a red light and stopped. when it turned green I stepped on the throttle and all the car would do is rev. No forward gears or reverse. I hear a funny whining or high piched whirring noise now. If I leave the car running and have it in any gear I can't push it, as if it is in park. Sometimes when I slide it from park to reverse the whining noise changes pitch, the rpms drop and the car will quiver ever so slightly like it is trying to go into reverse. Has the tranny gone out, or is there something cheaper that could cause this problem? Thanks in advance guys.

It really appears that something internally "broke"...sorry to deliver bad news, but expect a $1500 rebuild in your immediate future.
I had a shifting problem and replaced the input/output sensors to fix the matter but your situtation seems much more severe.
I would suggest calling around...with the economy in the crapper there should be a lot of deals out there as everyone is fighting for business....GOOD LUCK
