I was informed at my last oil change that my pan is screwed so to speak. Something related to the screw threads. Anyways Ill have to get another from Chrysler, anyone have any idea how much these cost?

 

Hummm. Something doesn't sound right. The oil pan only has round holes and the threads are located on the engine block. Are you sure the Tech wasn't talking about a bad (leaking) oil pan gasket?

 

The oil pan is aluminum and threads getting stripped is all too common. Caused by a ding-a-ling doing an oil change and not knowing how tight a drain plug should be...or should I say...NOT be. Call the dealer and ask how much it is.

 

Sorry about my previous comment. The Oil "drain plug"....of course. I was thinking the oil pan bolts was the issue..

I've been going to the same place for oil changes for at least 6 yrs on this car. I get the oil changed prob every 3000 which means in a regular year I've probably had it changed around 5 or 6 times. Do you think wear and tear after years of oil changes plays any role given that other parts on the Sebring simply break or crack ie resonator and rear strut mounts?

 

no u can only tear up a bolt hole if U put it in wrong a few times

 

If you have always gone to the same place for your oil changes, then there's the ding-a-ling right there who buggered up the threads on the oil pan. Personally, I'd say he owes you a new oil pan-installed.

 

I don't see that short of bringing a certified Chrysler technician with me to testify that I'd get them to pay for my oil pan. Does that happen ever at any shop unless they do something obvious like blow your engine after a bad oil change?

 

You probably don't need a Chrysler certified tech to be your expert witness. Anybody who has changed oil for a living ought to be able to testify as to the right way to do it and the consequences of doing it wrong.
Once you have pulled the old pan off, take it back to the oil-change place and show them the damage they did. Their own records will confim that it was their work. I would suspect that they might be happy to pay for the new part to avoid having to spend a day in small claims court.
