If it's under the dash, it's the evaporator core. The condenser is in front of the radiator. You're going to have to remove the whole dash, which is a big job. Your best bet is to invest in a repair manual like a Haynes, then read through the relevant sections to decide whether you and your toolbox are up to the task.
You may decide that you can do part of the job and then take it to an a/c shop for final evacuation and charging.
