Default 2004 sedan...no a/c

Went to help one of my buddies from work today since he hasnt had ac in his car for a few weeks. We turned the car on and turned the ac on and nothing. I checked the high and low ports for pressure and got no pressure on both sides. Whats also strange is that the fans behind the radiator never turned on.....until i messed around with them. I saw that the pressure switch that goes into the condenser had a wire with minor tears in it and another that was spliced. I disconnected the connector and reconnected it which caused the fans to cycle on for about a minute and then off. He said that the pressure switch had been replaced when he first got the car since the ac was inopperable and it had worked until just a few weeks ago...so it had been working for a good two years. Car has 80,xxx miles on it. How can i further diagnose this? And does no pressure readings automatically mean no refrigerant or can it be trapped somewhere in the system due to something faulty? I was thinking about doing a recharge and replacing the connector to the pressure switch and going from there...seem like a good or bad idea?

add freon about 1 lb worth how do not pressure coming out of the port well it because its a gas and it will come out when released under pressure.

Adding the freon made the compressor kick on and we had ac. Used a 12oz can. Hoping itll last awhile and i guess we can look for leaks next time of necessary.

Will be checking it again hopefully thursday or friday. We didnt get the freon with dye since it wasnt available at the autozone we went to so well probably just get the small bottle of dye. Any common areas where leaks may be on these cars? Its got the 2.4 dohc.

found the leak a week ago. im guessing the o rings on the top hose going into the condenser is leaking system is still full hasnt lost too much freon. im going to get the freon removed and then switch out the orings. im kind of stuck with the ac oil...i was told the oil used should be pag 56, i was given pag 46...should i use that or go with pag 100?
