Default 96 JX Cluster issue

Hello, my 96 JX convertible is having an issue with the instrument cluster, the RPM gauge and the odometer turn on and off randomly and now it seems there is a short some where because it drains my batteriw at night, the odometer still registers the milage when it lights up, o and i get the word "deck" above the odometer when it does come on, like where it says "door" when ur door is open, anyway i was wondering if anyone knows what the "deck" means or if ya have any ideas on where the short may be cause im positive its not behind the cluster itself, thanks

well looks like either 2 issues or just one the DECK is your trunk lid open if the lid ois open or the ajar switch is not woorking right then the light will stay on and kill your batt. U can check for yourself ahve some one close u inside the trunk and see if the light goes out or not if yes then move on if not fix the latch , or an adj is needed to make sure the trunk closes all the way. Next issue The cluster i have seen do the rpm dance and also make the cluster stay awake and kill the batt as well.

unless there is a short to ground on the tn/bk wire it wont be a ground issue.

Ah no. You got the famous Tach/Odo problem. The other forum has the precise procedure to give this a fix if you own a sodering iron. Here you go:

http://www.sebringclub.net/gallery/TachRepair

The forum pages:
http://www.sebringclub.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=1970

that should do it.
