Default blown engine

I have rescently purchased a 2002 sebring lxi convertable. 2 weeks later... engine blows.
I am considering putting in a 2.4, rather than putting in another 2.7.

Is there a "best" year 2.4 to go into my '02?

I understand that it has much less power... but this does not concern me so much.

I have heard good things about the 2.4, as in few issues.

Is this a good idea?

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I would stay with the engine size the car came with. I'm an originalist though. Fix your blown engine if you can or get the same from another car or a crate engine. Just my two cents.

Our 2001 died, we opted to rebuild as we stilled owed on it. The issue was not the engine, it was an oil pump if I remember right. The shop said they've rebuilt several for the same reason. Apparently the OEM part does not allow adequate flow and can become easily clogged. Thus restricting the flow even further, causing overheating, and failure. They installed an aftermarket part to correct the issue. What I'm saying is that it's not the engine. For the sake of simplicity, stay with what you have if it's available, JMHO.
