Default could dealer put on wrong size oil filter?

I am new to all this.
I have a 2008 sebring with a 2.7 liter engine with only 14000 miles.
I have been wanting to change the oil for the first time as a new owner.

The car has small dia. filter on it. I haven't taken it off yet.
Yet, whenever I look in the book, it calls for a large diameter filter.
The book calls for Mopar 04884899AB
and is equivalent to Fram PH 16 or Fram PH 2.
and I understand the PH 2 is the one that has the 22mm thread which is what my 2008 car has, I think.
These are both the large diameter Filters.

My question is... could the dealer install a small diamter filter where a large diameter filter should be?

And should I install the PH 2 or equivalent? Regardless of what the dealer installed before?

HELP HELP HELP...thanks..

On my last oil change, they put a smaller diameter filter but it was a little longer than the last one,so I guess it evens out.

so... regardless whats on the car now,
I will be ok installing the mopar filter that is called for in the owners manual which is Mopar 04884899AB.
Or equivalent.
These are all large diameter filters/ with the 22 mm threads. I looked at all the stores.

The filter on the car now... has the small diameter.

Sure is confusing.. never have had this problem before!! on my other rigs..

Thanks..

Just a general question. As long as the threads match,
can either a large diameter or small diameter filter be installed on any vehicle?

The gasket must seal on the proper surface.

it is possible, but you would know if they did after driving it for a while and you punch the gas. the filter will actually blow off of the threads and leave a trail of oil

found out...wrong filter was on car!!!
Filter was from Jiffy Lube, not the Dealer.
Makes you kinda wonder about doing business with these guys.

Jiffy Lube put on wrong filter...not dealer.
Kinda make you wonder about doing business with these "oil change businesses".
