Default Fuel pump?

My wife has a 1997 sebring 2.5. It won't stay started. It will start then idle very rough and really just doesn't want to stay running. If I spray carb cleaner in the throttle body it will stay running as long as I keep spraying. The moment I stop spraying it barely running and dies. I just want to make sure I am right saying the fuel pump is bad. It has no test port to screw a gauge on to. The only way is with an adapter to put inline of the fuel line. As a side note before you could hear the pump kick on when you turned the key. Now tou have to open gas cap and you can barely hear it come on.

Has the gas filter ever been replaced? it should be found just inside of the pass. rear wheel arch. could be totally plugged up if it's the original...which can also over stress and kill the pump.
Is yours the convert.,sedan or coupe model? Fuel pump on convert and sedan require dropping the tank. My coupe has an access plate under the rear seat.

Sounds like a bad fuel pump then...order a fuel filter for it also, hope you are not in a high rust area like I am...makes it a REAL PAIN to replace the fuel filter!
