its the control unit, i had to pull mine out of the dash, take it apart and resolder the contact joints on the selector *****, its a known issue of solder cracking from long term use. 10 minutes a set of screwdrivers and a soldering iron is all you need. it is NOT your blend door actuator. i thought it was mine at first too.

pull the center of the dash apart, and open up the selector ***** housing, its 2 or 3 T25 screws i believe. then take a soldering iron to the contact pads and relmelt the solder. let it cool, reassemble plug in and your controls will work normally again.

Default 06 Chrysler Sebring 2.7L blowing ac out of defrost vents only!

Hows it going,
I had read where you had issues with ac blowing only through defroster vents & described a vent actuator under or into the dash had swayed or was not aligned that had caused ac to only pass through defroster vents.
Have not checked the fuse yet but it's definitely a car that will give you many issues no matter how low the mileage is. I try to keep it up & running good for my mother but I would've never brought a Sebring from knowledge of them having way to many issues & unfortunately this one was up north at one point & the rust makes the underpinning look like it was pulled from the salt sea. Mother purchased with 114k original now 10 years later only 124,7XXk on dash but keeping it up with the convertible top is definitely not made for everyday or every other day driving but I didn't buy it, but thankfully I have the self taught knowledge to work on vehicle's on a normal basis but learning some new incoming issues as stated.
Locating exactly where the actuator vent is located under the dash might help me solve the similar issue I'm speaking of. Haven't even begin to look into the actual issue because of the amount of work I've already put into the car & the time, but as long as my mother is happy I am.
Anyways I decided to reach out just incase its a vent inside the dash actuated toward the wrong direction or somewhat offset.?
Once I get to it by location hopefully I will see it.
Both fans operate as should along with fan speeds & accurate ac compressor clutch engaging/disengaging when using the control panel & by checking all options, so I might have the same exact vent actuator issue.?
Appreciate it.

Have you tried the recalibration procedure noted earlier in this thread? What was the result?

Have you tried replacing the HVAC control unit in the center stack? This seems to be a common enough failure point. As one contributor pointed out, there seems to be an issue with cracking solder joints in the control unit.

An actuator motor failure is typically accompanied with a clacking as the actuator attempts to move/reposition the associated HVAC door. Are you hearing the clacking?

Note the defrost mode is the default/ignition-off setting so if there is an issue with the hvac selector in the control unit, it will stay on defrost.
