If I buy car with dead 2.7 what should I expect?
Should I get ready to install new crank? Or just rebuild heads? Is there chance just to replace bearings? Do they knock or seize? Coolant in oil will destroy crank bearings? Thanks.

Don't, unless it's REALLY cheap. Used motors are very expensive and rebuilts are VERY expensive.
Usually not worth the money to rebuild yourself. |

Thanks for your responce. Did you ever fix 2.7? As far as I know dealerships don't fix engines. They can replace chain or head gasket but never mess with pistons and cranks. My question is which parts of engine go bad?

Don't bother asking the dealerships. Find a local engine rebuilding shop andask them what damage they see and what can or can't be fixed. Probably going to get your the best answer that way.
The ones that come through my relatives salvage yard are always knocking severely or already locked up - ie bottom end failures. They do NOT sell used 2.7 engines at any cost, regardless if they don't make noise, they all get dumped in a container. They don't want the hassle. |

Thanks Blue. Locked up engines are usually need 1 new piston and set of rings but I hate to replace crank.
