Can anybody tell me if my 96 Sebring JXi 2.5 liter V6 is a interference type engine?
just had my timing belt go out, Engine got hot real fast & stopped.
Mechanic's not sure if its a interference type Eng or not. Called around (even the dealorships can't give me a straight answer).

I'd like to know before I spend $$$ to replace my belt (and idler tensioner, pulleys, bearings etc...) only to find out my Engine is gone.

I appreciate any help.

 

this was posted a long time ago, so I don't even know if you're going to get this.... YES!!!! It is an interference engine... It is one of the worst ones out there! Everything in that engine has to be so well orchestrated, that slight offset will break every valve in that engine... If that belt snapped... pull the the heads...
