Need help identifying correct top boot
Got a 2000 JXI and looking to buy a top boot. Only source known to me is ebay (at this point) and I would greatly appreciate any help with the following:
[ul][*]Is there a top boot that fits Sebring convertible models from 1996 through to 2002? Seller claims that Chrysler part number 0UP46WX9AB would do just that - [*]I am more inclined to believe that my Sebring needs a top boot made for models 1996 through to 2000, identified by Chrysler part number OQG88TRM.[/ul]
Both part numbers come from the ads on ebay and I have no way to check as to who is right or just after a quick buck.
Any feedback is appreciated!
Joe

RE: Need help identifying correct top boot
I can't help with specific part numbers but I can help with this tidbit.
The 1st gen boot (96-00) is a hard leather boot that can only be folded at the point the "wings" meet the main piece that covers across the car. The "wings" cover the area where the rear quarter windows are mounted. The underside of the boot has two elastic straps that stretch from front to back that these "wings" fold under to help keep it "small". At the end of each "wing" is a velcro patch that is supposed to interlock with the plates mounted to the inner quarter panels to hold the tips down.
The 2nd gen boot (01-06) is a much softer leather and is capable of being folded in half at least. The general shape is much the same but there are two snaps that attach at the edges of the rear seatback, kind of behind the seat cushion on the framing. It also has the velcro patches but doesn't rely as much on them as the 1st gen boot does.
The boots are close enough that they sort of work with the opposite generation but you've got to be careful to fully secure it when doing it. I would suggest using the proper one and not trying to get the other to fit.
And just for fun the 3rd gen boot (08-) is on the car permanently.
