Hi all new to the forum but been lurking for a while. Great site. I need help. 1995 Sebring with the 2.5. 90 K miles. Wont start and backfires through the intake when it tries to start. Has spark. I replaced spark plugs and wires with OEM. Still has spark. Question -- acts like a timing belt slip of a notch or two but it has 158 to 162 lbs of compression in every cylinder. Would it have that good and even of compression in every cylinder if the timing was off? Again, backfires through the intake when it tries to start. It will actualy run for a few seconds back firing through the intake on every cylinder. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You get good compression if the valves close completely. If they are late in closing you might get backfiring as you describe. Better have a good look at that belt.

Thanks for the follow up. That makes sense. Tearing that down, there went my weekend.
