Default Oil Dipstick

We have a 2008 Sebring with a 3.5L. The owners' manual indicates 5.5 quarts of oil to fill the pan and filter. When I fill to 5.5 quarts, the dipstick indicates low, in the lower end of the "safe" range on the dipstick. My mechanic says to fill to the normal full line regardless of what the manual says. 6 quarts will reach to a little below the top of the "safe" range. Searching online, I cannot find a length for this dipstick I can trust (it depends on where you measure from). The photos below show my dipstick. The length of the metal portion is 21 1/4". The length of the metal portion and the lower end of the yellow portion which seats in the tube is 22 1/4". Does anyone know if this is the correct dipstick, or has anyone run into this issue. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response. I looked up this part the other day. It lists "tube length" of 24 inches, but that doesn't give me a reference to the active length of this dipstick.

Try writing to the company and ask them.

Thanks. Yeah, I may have to go that route next. I thought somebody with a Sebring might have an idea, and this would be quicker than waiting on Chrysler.

Don't write to Chrysler. Write to Rock Auto. They sell the part. Chrysler won't give you the time of day for a 12 year-old part. Or just spend the 10 bucks and buy it from Rock Auto.

Thanks for the info. I have sent an e-mail to Chrysler; will see if they respond. I don't necessarily need to replace it, at least until I find out what is up. Again, appreciate the help.

Do a search on the OEM part number listed in the description and search for 'mopar 4892121AA' Go to one of the mopar parts sites and verify the vehicle fitment. Shows 4892121AA fits 2008 Sebring with 3.5l engine

Side note, the 3.5l in the '06 charger takes 6.5 quarts

Oh, really! The Charger takes 6.5 qts. That squares with what I'm seeing in my own oil changes. I will try that OEM # to see if I can find specs.

Hey, thanks a lot for the input.

There should be a part number on the dipstick; may not be a mopar number but there should be a number.

If there is any question, order a new one if only for peace of mind.
