Default Part available?

I have a 1999 Sebring Limited convertible. One of the brake proportioning valves is corroded and leaking. The part number is 04883776AA and it's discontinued. My Sebring has rear disk brakes and my mechanic was wondering what would happen if both were removed. The thought is that they were for the model JX which had drum brakes and were just left in for the JXi and Limited. Anyone have this problem? How did you solve it?
