Radio Upgrade?
Hello,
I have a 2015 Chrysler 200S - V6 - AWD - with the 8.4" UConnect Radio. I bought this car last year, and it has been having issues with the radio. Sometimes when I start it, the radio does not boot up right away. The GPS on it is also messed up. I took it to a Chrysler dealer to see what the issue was/maybe get an update on the software, but they said that there is a short in the radio, and I need a new one. ($1,200)
I'm trying to figure out what to do:
1. Go to junk yard and get a used one to install. This would be the least costly, but I'm not sure if I will have to get a software update. Or a GPS update. (I seen something on Youtube where you can stick a flash drive in to update the maps. Will this work? Downside of this is that the maps would eventually be out of date, since I believe Chrysler stopped updating these for this year model.
2. Get an aftermarket radio with Apple Carplay (My wife uses this, and wants GPS in there for her job) This option I worry about, as I'm not sure about purchasing one from Ebay or something, as I don't want to install a new backup camera. Will aftermarket radios work with the stock back-up camera? What else would I need (special wiring harness?)
What aftermarket radios are recommended?
Any thoughts or recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
