Hello again, I have a '01 Chrysler Sebring coupe with v6 3.0 engine auto.
And, I just got my car towed to a shop yesterday due to a broken timing belt.

Well, here are my questions if you can answer/reply any of them, that'd be great:

1. how much would it be a reasonable amount to replace a timing belt and a water pump?
(although the mechanic never explain to me how much for the parts and labor seperately, he told me $410 is the lowest he can do for me and no less)
2. if the timing belt breaks, would it damage the engine on this model?
(it broke while I was driving at about 20 to 25 mph in city, going straight)

We had an '89 van with the 3.0 that did the same thing. No other engine damage, but cost about the same thing. It had a little less than 300K km at the time and I was doing about 90kph (55mph).

by the way, I forgot to mention it's got just a little over 80k miles.
and, the mechanic added another $90 for the tentioner.
so the total of $500 now.

 

wow you better get that in writing,thats a great price! pretty sure that engine is freewheeling.

 

let me just correct one thing.
according to the mechanic, it's not the tentioner but the bearing that needs to be replaced.
anyway, how much is usually the right amount if $500 is a good price for the timing belt and the water pump?(and bearing)
