Replacing wheel stud on a 1999 Chrysler sebring convert.
Hi:
I searched this forum for a couple of hours looking for the answer to this question. Can you remove a broken wheel stud on a 1999 Chrysler Sebring JXI Convert. with ABS brakes without disconnecting the lower tie rod ends and lower control arm ball joint. I heard in some cases if you position the axle assem. in a certain spot in the hub you can remove the wheel stud and replace it with a new stud without disconnecting the steering knuckle. Any DETAILED information if this can be done and how to do it on my application would be greatly appreciated. Also if I have to do it the traditional way I would need those detail instructions. Looking at the back of the hub with the axle still in it's original position I could see
3 tork head bolts on the back of the hub. Do those hold the axle to the hub or just the hub nut? Thanks for all the help this site rocks!!!
Thanks

You need a special tool to press the stud out. Like this:
Miller Special Tools C-4150A PRESS, BALL JOINT
There's a location on the steering knuckle that is notched out so that the stud can be pressed out if it is rotated in line with the notch.
Install the new stud by pushing it through the hole, then put a stack pf washers over the threads of the stud, put on a wheel nut upside down and tighten it to pull the stud into position.
DON'T try to pound out the stud with a hammer. You will screw up your wheel bearings by doing so.
