RE: Transmission Problem
Just for the record, the "Quick Learn" is a routine that is performed using the DRBIII scan tool. It should be done after any significant transmission work or replacement of the tranmission control module. Irdaneel is absolutely right that the dealer or a transmission shop should know what it is.
What it does is set the tranmission control module to "quickly learn" when and how to shift smoothly, given your driving habits. The module is supposed to do this anyway, over time, but this will jump-start the process. The quick learn procedure is designed to get the smoothest shifting as rapidly as possible. If that doesn't do it for you, then there are probably mechanical issues. |

TCM (Transmission Control Module) Quick Learn
This is from pg 8E-26 of the Sebring Service Manual. Your Chrysler dealer will need to perform this. ( note: there is also a PINION FACTOR SETTING" procedure that must be done if the TCM is replaced.
STANDARD PROCEDURE - QUICK LEARN PROCEDURE The quick learn procedure requires the use of the DRBIII t scan tool. This program allows the electronic transaxle system to recalibrate itself. This will provide the best possible transaxle operation. NOTE: The quick learn procedure should be performed if any of the following procedures are performed: ² Transaxle Assembly Replacement ² Transmission Control Module Replacement ² Solenoid/Pressure Switch Assembly Replacement ² Clutch Plate and/or Seal Replacement ² Valve Body Replacement or Recondition To perform the Quick Learn Procedure, the following conditions must be met: ² The brakes must be applied ² The engine speed must be above 500 rpm ² The throttle angle (TPS) must be less than 3 degrees ² The shift lever position must stay until prompted to shift to overdrive ² The shift lever position must stay in overdrive after the Shift to Overdrive prompt until the DRBIIIt indicates the procedure is complete ² The calculated oil temperature must be above 60° and below 200° (1) Plug the DRBIIIt scan tool into the diagnostic connector. The connector is located under the instrument |
For automatic transmission, check the transmission fluid level and condition.
Check the fluid level, low level may indicate a transmission leak. If you feel a strong jerk or clunk while shifting the car may have a transmission problem. |
