Default Turns over, won't start

Hello All,

First post, any help would be appreciated.

I have a 2000 Sebring LXi. It is relatively low mileage (65,000) and has been fine until now. A month ago, I went to start my car and it turned over, but didn't start. The next time I tried, it started just fine. This happened again about 2 weeks ago except it took 3 or 4 times before it finally started. Over the next several days, it would require multiple tries before starting. This would happen 30 to 40 percent of the time. However, this past week it has just gottend ridiculous (7 or 8 tries before starting). I am a college student, so luckily I do not have to drive often. It runs fine once it is started. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? Fuel pump? Faulty relay somewhere in the electrical system for the fuel pump?

Thanks,
Andrew

is your engine a 2.5 or 2.7 mitsubishi ?
Itlikley could be a fuel pressure regulator Especailly if WHEN it does start it smellspretty much like gasoline out of the exhaust..If outside you need to pay attention. easier to notice in garage.
If this is the case likley the fuel pressure regulator. Itis in the fuel tank and it's like 100 bucks for part, OR for $200 you can geta new aftermarket fuel pump with the fuel pressure regulator.
A fuel pressure test can determine if that is the problem or not.
if it needs to be replacedlabor is the real $ killer here since it involves dropping the fuel tank.

another much longer shot is a crank position sensor I my car had hard starting issues at times but it aslo had 130,000 miles.( i had one of those go out however my car would also just stall at times & re-start quickly most of the time.

hey, I havent figured out how to use this yet very well. at least to follow an issue and see what others repsond to you since i may have a simmilar or same problem.my direct E-mail is johno99@juno.com pls let me know who to check the responses you get and what you ultimalty find out with the hard start problem and what it cost to fix. parts and or labor and how difficult it was if you did the work yourslef
thanks. Johno

Thanks for the quick input. As soon as my TA/class schedule allows I will be taking the car to a local shop or dealership. I will let you know the problem and costs as soon as I find out.
