Default What is bad about 2.7?

I went to auction yesterday and Concord with bad engine was for sale. 110K miles. Some dealer said: "I knew it was 2.7, they are bad engines" So what is going bad? I have no problem fixing any engine as long as I don't need to dropsubframeto remove oil pan.

Engine sludge is a big concern with this engine. Oil changes MUST be done every 3000 miles. Reasons vary as to why the sludge forms from a poorly designed PCV system to the thermostat mounted in the lower rad hose. The engine also has a water pump driven by the timing chain. In theory, when the water pump bearing/seal fails, the coolant is suppost to travel down a channel to outside the block. In reality,in most cases the coolant leaks into the engine oil. Oil and coolant don't mix and bearings can be toasted in a matter of minutes.
