Default wifes 96 sebring conv

ok wife has a 96 sebring conv 2.5 that latley has been acting strange i'm wondering if its the ALT. it sounds like the bearing is going out and the car will ether surge or drop in power and there is a brief shrike that is intermittent. am i right to suspect the ALT? OH AND NEWBE HERE SAYS HELLO EVERYONE.

On an 18-year-old car, it could be a lot of things. Not sure what you mean by a "shrike that is intermittent" but that could be a belt squeal. Check the alternator drive belt. You should be checking the timing belt on that car too; replace it before it fails. It usually gives no warning, just lets go, leaving you (or her) with a dead engine.
