I have a 2013 and the camera lines are perfect. I also have a new 2017, the the lines on it are so bad the backup camera is pretty much useless for parking. If I park in a mall and the camera shows me to be equal distance between the painted lines, the car is actually sitting on the left line, with two feet of more from the painted line on the right. Dealer says the lines are software generated. Nothing they can do. They did put a new camera in, but there was no change. Anyone have this issue? Thanks.
No, never got it fixed. Dealer said there was no software issue and even replaced the whole assembly (red light, camera, and trunk button) under warranty. I watched him do it and we even shimmed one side, all to no avail. The lines are still off. My wife drives it now, and I have a 2019 and the lines are off on it also. Haven't bother taking it back, since I don't think there is a fix for it. Love the cars so much, we have gotten used to it learned to put up with this flaw. Sorry. Wish I had better news for you.
I'm terribly sorry to hear that you are experiencing concerns with your back-up camera lines being off-center. If you decide to get this addressed by your dealer and would like additional support, I can certainly look into getting that arranged for you! Just send us a private message with more details.
Dear ChryslerCares, I will be contacting you soon about this issue via private message...
But I do want to post a picture showing this problem so other forum members can more accurately see what exactly the problem that I am seeing.
As you know, the grid lines are meant to show the where the sides of the car are in relation to the surroundings as we back up.
They should show us how far away we are from the curb.
They should also show us if the car is parallel to the curb and not angled into it.
Also, the distance between grid lines decreases the farther away the position on the grid line is and this is proper because things appear larger the closer they are to you.
But, the problem with the new camera's is that the grid lines are not drawn properly, making it impossible to use them to park our car in reverse.
Below is a perfect example of what I am talking about:
Above is a picture of my car backing into a parking space.
As we all know parking space lines are parallel to each other and are straight.
And you can see that the gridline on the left appears to be drawn properly because for the the entire length of the left grid line, the spacing between it and the parking space line is equal, as it should be - because this is showing that the car is at an angle that is parallel to the parking space, so if I backup in a straight line, by car will end up being parked straight inside the space and not angled in it.
However, as you can clearly see, the grid on the right is angle wrong, so it is not parallel to the parking space line, making it impossible to not only properly judge the distance my car is from the edge of the parking space, but I can't not figure out if my car is going in a straight path into the parking space.
The reason why this is a problem is that often we park on the street against a curb, so the left grid line is not useful because there is no line in the street to guide us. But the right grid line is VERY important so that we can both make sure our car is aligned parallel to the curb, and to also make sure the car is at a proper distance from the curb.
So hopefully this picture clearly demonstrates the problem I am having so I won't have to waste time going to the dealer just to confirm this, then having to go to the dealer again to have the camera replaced. Hopefully, a new camera that has been tested to not have this problem can be sent to my dealer, so I will only have to make one trip
A very good example JC300. I am not sure it is the same with my 16 and 19, but when backing up, the lines would show that my car is equal distance between those white parking lines, when actually the right side wheels would be on the white parking line, and there would be two feet from the left white parking line.My 2013 was dead on. Good luck in getting it fixed. My dealer did everything (I think), including a new camera.. I hope this customer care person helps. Please let us know if there is a fix.
I received your private message, but for some reason this forum software will not let me reply to it - it keeps bouncing me back to my inbox and when I go back into the message thread, my reply is not in there.
Would it be possible if you could send me another private message and include your email so then we can communicate that way?
