Default A/C unit problems

Ok so the fan blows on the inside of the car, but the A/C interface console doesn't light up at all. It seems to respond to buttons if I push them (kinda). So my question is would it be worth it to replace to console? Maybe its just an electrical problem and my A/C really isn't broke?
