Looks like you're going to have to drop the tank and completely remove the (new) fuel pump to get to the fuel level sending unit. Did the (out of business) mechanic use OEM parts, or cheap crap that might be wired incorrectly? Could be as simple as moving the float arm to the other side (if reversible), or could be a wiring issue.

  1. Drain and remove fuel tank.
  2. Note rotational position of module before attempting removal. An indexing arrow is located on top of module for this purpose.
  3. Position Lockring Remover/Installer 9340 into notches on outside edge of lockring.
  4. Install 1/2 inch drive breaker bar to Lockring Remover/Installer 9340.
  5. Rotate breaker bar counterclockwise to remove lockring.
  6. Remove lockring. The module will spring up slightly when lockring is removed.
  7. Remove module from fuel tank. Be careful not to bend float arm while removing.

That style lock ring is a sonofa... to break loose. You WILL need a breaker bar and the tool. Don't try to hammer and screwdriver it, you could mess up the tank or get the ring bent crooked
