Default 2007 Aspen Tailgate Latch

Hi. Is anyone having problems with the manual tailgate latch not working? The console button and key fob will open it fine, but not manually (which I use most of the time). This is the second time this has happened. The dealer has said it's due to corroded wires. Luckily it's still under warranty, but I'm sure it's going to happen again after the warranty is up. How is water getting in there? Everything looks fine to me.

If the wires are in fact corroded as they say they need to be splicing in some new terminals and finding out where the water is coming from. Poor customer service.
