The Battery light in my wife's Aspen came on yesterday and by the time I got home to look at it, the truck was completely dead. No dome light or anything.

I had a charger on the battery overnight and it still won't do anything.

Would a bad alternator prevent the battery from charging from a battery charger? Does that sounds like alternator? Or worse?
