I just finished a hand calculated test and am getting 8 mpg. That is all local driving the past 2 weeks. I got 173 miles to the tank. I filled up 21 gallons. This is awful. Does this make sense, or can something be wrong with the performance of my vehicle?

I think the problem is solved. It is the gas station I HAVE been getting gas from all the time.[sm=bustedsign.gif] I switched over the weekend and guess what? I am getting 15 city and 19 highway again. I was supposed to go to dealer today but called to cancel and they explained to me that the station's pump clocks are off. They are pumping mostly fumes instead of liquid. The fumes fill the tanklike airpressure making your guage appear to be full but in turn the fumes burn faster than the liquid. [sm=WTFsgign.gif]

I will continue to use NEW gas station and let everyone know how I am making out.

Hey there. This is now the secod time I have had to write about this. I thought I had it figured out before but I guess not. I am now getting between 6.5 and 10mpg local driving and 17-19mpg on the highway. I am satisfied with the highway mileage but what gives with the local driving. We are supposed to get 15mpg local. I understnad that is under optimal driving conditions and I don't expect that but why the heck am I getting only 6.5mpg at times. I don't floor it, stand still too long (only redlights), maintain my speed. What gives? What is everyone else getting with their Aspens? I am from Bayside, NY so I would be interested in hearing from those of you from a city setting what you get loacally. Thanks for any feedback.

Joe,
I think your issue may be not getting the tank completely full each time you measure. You need to use the same pump at the same station and use the same cut-off proceedure, ie full tank.

Our 2007 Hemi Aspen is very conistant in town at 14.4 - 14.8 mpg and on the highway 22.4 to 24.3 mpg. We check with the DIC as well as hand calculating the fuel mileage. When a number is way out of line is due to not getting the tank full.

We love our Aspen and its mileage.

Hi Jim, I am definetly filling tank to the top. I always top off at the pump. I used to get the same mileage as you but I am not now. I have just over 13,000 miles. On the highway I still get decent mileage of 17-19mpg at 65mph and the rpm's below 2,000. It is just local driving that has become dismal. I noticed I barely step on gas pedal and my aspen can do a whole NYC block. I think it is something to do with the injectors putting too much fuel possibly. I think I need to get it checked out at the dealer. Thanks for your suggestion.

By the way, I LOVE the Aspen. The best vehicle I have ever owned. Just have to figure out the gas mileage.

I had a chance to have the Aspen on the highway for 2000km trip. Fuel economy was pretty decent. I got somewhere between 25 mpg and 26 mpg.

10,000 miles on my 2008 aspen with the hemi 19 mpg on the highway, i can only dream of ever getting 25-26 mpg. on the highway. that is real good miliage for the size of the aspen. that is about what our car gets with a v/6 engine. a lot of carsdont get that kinda miliage.

I might add my cruising speed was around 65mph, A/C on the whole time as well. I too find that the economy of this is better than most V6's, whether it's an import or domestic. Our Honda Odysseys best fuel economy was around 24mpg, hauling the same people, probably close to the same weight of vehicle too. So all in all I am likin' this Aspen, not to mention, you put your foot down and you are g o n e .

OK. I am lost. I filled up at yet another new gas station in my neighborhood. This one happens to be the cheapest gas in the area too ($3.83/gal). I nearly dropped dead when I was getting 17.7 local and wait get this, 25.5 highway. What the hell are gas stations doing that there is such a difference in the mileage we get.So far on a quarter of a tank I have gotten 125 miles. This is amazingly better than just last week when I was getting 6.5 mpg local and 17mpg hwy.
