05 Pacifica AWD Using Oil

58K miles on my Pacifica, lately it's been using about 1.5 qts. of oil after about 2k miles. I've been using 5w30 Mobil 1 about every 5k miles. What would cause this oil usage? I don't see signs of oil burning or leaking. I use the Pacifica to tow my Miata during track season(about 3500lbs). Probably about 2k miles per season. I've been doing that since 05. Never had this problem before.

My 06 has been using about 1 quart every 1500 miles since I got it new. I just check it often. I don't think its a good thing, but I have read on the forums that a lot of people have the problem. It might be worth having checked out if you can't find anything wrong yourself. My car doesn't burn or leak oil. It "consumes" it. :)

I'm nearing the end of my Chrysler extended warranty. It ends at 60K miles. I'm going to bring it in and see if they can figure anything out. If they can't come up with any answer I'll just keep checking the oil and adding oil.

Every Chrysler product I've ever owned ends up using oil at some point during its life. My 2006 Pac starting using oil just before 40,000 miles. Try using 10W30 oil. I did and it slowed it down some, but I still have to add a quart about every 2,000..

Industry standards for normal engine oil consumption: Mileage below 50,000: Normal oil consumption is one quart for each 1,000 miles driven. Mileage above 50,000: Normal oil consumption is one quart for each 750 miles driven.
Sorry I can't source the "Industry" referred to here. I never knew this. It does seem a little stupid that the recommended oil change interval on "Schedule A" maintenance is 7,000 miles. Thios means your engine licks up after 5000 miles...LOL WTH?

If my 1997 Dodge truck was using that much oil, I would be tearing that sucker down and finding out why!! I'm using about a quart every 3000. And it has 100,000 miles on it

If you still have a warranty on your powertrain make the dealer fix it. Piston rigns or something. Don't take no for an answer.

Mine does the same..Using 10-30..Tried reg, syn blend and full syn...All same results so I am going back to syn blend since its cheaper to top off with.

Common Problem

I have an 05 Pacifica. This IS a common problem with this car. Two year ago, at 80k miles, I had them put a new engine in the car and now I have no problems. I would consistently run out of oil before the 3000 miles were up. When I first purchased the car with 26k on it, it had the problem and I took it in to have it looked at. They recommended that I do a oil consumption test. This is where I took the car in every 500 miles to check oil levels. I did this for 1500 miles and there was very little consumption, so I was told there was not a problem. I lived with this for another 60k, changing the oil every 2500 miles to avoid running dry. Finally, I insisted that we re-do the oil consumption test, this time all the way through the 3000 miles. Sure enough the first 1500 not a problem, then after that I used more than 1 quart every 500 miles. After getting management involved, they agreed that there was indeed a problem and took the engine apart to discover that it needed a new one. I was told that once the engine was apart, they could see the damage of the oil loss.
I suggest you fight the dealer. I printed off many forums like this with all the problems and took it to the service manager and also emailed the dealer management. (I also purchased the car from this dealer, certified) It took almost 3 months for the new engine to arrive because of the financial issues Chrysler had a few years back, so be ready for a long wait.
Good Luck!

Thank you for that post.

Well I have a little problem with my 2006 Pacifica (66000 miles on the odometer - out of warranty) which is consuming oil and I want some advice from experts on this forum.

These days I am adding one quart of oil every 2000 miles or so and I use 10W-30 . There is no oil leaking on the ground so my guess is that my car is burning it. Also for last 6 months I have been topping off the coolant ever 2 months. So I have few questions regarding what is best course of action here.

1) What do you guys think, how long the engine would last if I do nothing than keep adding oil and coolant?

2) Would it be sensible to let engine die in due time (my estimate is 2 years or so) instead of getting it fixed now and then have a re-manufactured engine put in when time comes?

Thanks for reading.

Any thoughts about this issue folks?
Thanks
