My 2005 AWD also burns oil. I am thinking of adding Lucas Oil Stabilizer.

Thanks

Just keep adding oil..I have tried 3 different oils up to synthetic with no change. So I am just going to watch it and put the cheap stuff in.

Coolant..Thats another issue. If you continue to add more and more coolant you will have to watch for a head leak..You can have a tech do a chem test to see if thats the case. If it is leaking from somewhere else it will get worse.

Default Can catalytic converter be damaged by excessive oil use?

Hi,
My 06 Pacifica started burning about one quart every 1200 miles and it started doing it within last 20,000 miles. Incidentally I recently had to put a new catalytic converter at about 70,000 miles.

I was wondering if such level of oil use (1 quart per 1,200 miles) can damage the catalytic converter?

Does anyone has any knowledge about it?

Thats a little to much oil consumption and yes oil can destroy a cat if the engine is burning it up.

Your cat should be under warranty..I beleive 8 years 80,000 miles. Check your manual if you paid. Cats do not go bad unless there is a defect. Cats usually go bad cause there is a problem. I would try high mileage oil next to see if that helps at all.

Yeah, the catalytic converter replacement was covered under warranty. But I am wondering, how long this new one would last if my car keep using up the oil.

Exclamation Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleanerd

Most of the opinions I have sought for my 3.5L Pacifica's oil leak problem have pointed towards piston rings not sealing properly; either because rings are worn/broken or there is carbon accumulation on rings. I have heard of a product called "Mopar combustion chamber cleaner" which can be introduced into chambers through the spark plug holes in an attempt to de-carbonize the piston rings. You can search internet for exact procedure details. And it is suggested to do a leakdown/compression test before this procedure.

Has anyone tried "Mopar combustion chamber cleaner" or a similar product with success? Or is this snake oil product like some oil additives?

Best

I have 122K on our '05, and it has made oil disappear since it was new. Never a leak, can't see it out of the tailpipe. I won't miss that as we get rid of it.

I guess I should feel extremely 'privileged' that my vehicle did not start using oil till 60,000 miles mark. Thinking that some people have to deal with a new car using oil, makes me feel .... um .... lucky!

Alright so my last post was in June 2011 when I had to replace the Catalytic converter @ 70,000 miles. Today check engine light lit up the dash again. I checked the code and it was P0420 again after 2 years. Now I have about 105,000 miles on it. So the factory replacement Catalytic Converted installed by dealer lasted about 35,000 miles.

My car is still using up oil and I am convinced that burning all this oil has something to do with Cat converter going bad so soon. Has anyone else with the car using oil had Cat. Conv. going bad?

Has anyone found the reason or solution to the oil burning problem?
