If I need tire chains on my AWD, where do I put them, on the front or the rear?

 

Start with the rear. Rear-wheel skid is more dangerous than front-wheel skid. Also, clearance around the tires is tighter in the front and you don't want to tear something up on the inside of the fender wells in a tight turn.
