Default 2004 3.5 engine swap to 05 or 06 engine?

I need to replace my 2004 3.5 and the 05-06 are more readily available but salvage yards say they aren't the same. Does anyone know what is different and why the 04 won't take the 05 engine swap?

Default Thanks and one more question

Thank you so much for your response, I have to just get clarification, as long as I swap all external components like fuel and exhaust systems and any related sensors it will work? Do you know if oil pans are the same? Thanks again

that's because in 05 the egr was deleted you will see a cover where the EGR was suppose to be.
