Default 2004 Pacifica - Problem with A/C, heater...

Sort of been an ongoing problem since last November, but I haven't put much time or money into, especially since April. The temperature has always worked--let's get that out there.

The start of the issue was last winter, I noticed the air (hot) wouldn't move to the front defrost. The same trip/evening, I also noticed the air would only blow full blast and turning it off only made it blow faster. By the next day, it just stopped blowing altogether.

Ok...did some digging, and I bought a new resistor pack. The cured the fan speed but not the direction of the air. With a very mild winter here in Indiana, I didn't really need to defrost. Plus, I work about 300 yards from home.

About March, it went out again--it would only go full speed. I changed out the resistor pack, knowing there was something else at play, but figured it would buy me another six months. Nope. It lasted three days. Luckily, I was able to return the resistor pack, and that's about where I am right now.

Theory:
A flaw in the blower motor keeps blowing out the resistor pack. Does that sound right? I've had two people who know more about cars than I do tell me that, but neither are what I'd call definitive sources.

Question:
Am I looking at a mode door actuator as well, or could the alleged power surge from the blower motor be screwing up a couple of things?

I now have some time to throw at this. Thank you for your time.

a mode door motor is in no way connected to the blower motor.
Replace the blower motor and resistor

We too have replaced the fan resistor with success last year. Not sure how hard it is to remove the fan and hand it to a elect test person to hook on and see how many amps it draws against whatever it is rated for as well as checking your supply voltage. Thinking that it may be running dry inside and/or has too much resistance somehow. Good luck. *BW*

I'll need to replace the mode door actuator as well, right? Air only comes through the vents, not the floor or defrost. It all happened the same time.

What's the best resource to see how to change the blower motor? I found material of replacing the mode door, if you think it's necessary.
