900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

Hey, I have a 2006 with a IR type changer. I have the screen, headphones, remote for the 900mhz RF type. I want tokeep mp3 capability. I have the cd/tape radio. My ideas. 1: I keep my changer and install a 900 mhz transmitter like the POWER ACOUSTIK HP-902RFT (assuming I can tap it to the audio) idea 2: I change the dvd changer to thye RF type and then change the radio to the RAH one with Mp3. What do you guys think. Also. is there any difference between the two wireless remotes? Any issues I might have if I use the IR dvd changer with the RF rear setup? Kevin

I got the P.A. 900mhz headphones. I will be installing all my stuff soon, and post it here.

So you are keeping the IR changer and using the PA adapter? Keep us posted.

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

Yes I'm keeping the IR changer. (I want to keep the MP3 capability) I put in the non IR mopar screen today. But, my car did not have the extension cable up to the A-pillar. So I used the cable that came with the screen and it has no wires on the pin outs for audio and IR activate. I wish I could just get the pin contacts to put in the plug, but I'm sure I have to order the IR extension cable. I am wandering what output the IR activate gives. neg. or pos. or ? I want to use this output to turn on the 900mhz transmitter. I will keep posting.

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

My 2004 IR Changer will not play MP3 nor my RBP radio :(

My guess would be positive but I am not sure. This is an interesting project. I look forward to your sucess. Do you have wiriing pinouts for new screen, old screen and changer?

pac2006 05-23-2008 06:10 PM

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

Pinoutsare on my 2006 IR changer. But the wiring and screen are for the RF type. The plug is the same, just has no wires or contacts (pin sockets)where I need them. The dealer wants $240.00 for just the lower cable. Thats not gonna happen. Anyone here have ANY cable that will plug into the changer? Either plug will work as I will remove the contacts I need and add them to my existing plug, I have been searching ebay. I wish I knew where to get just the little contacts I need. I only need 3. As soon as I get these parts I will complete this project. Thanks.

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

I ask because I have the Manual on CD if you need diagrams. Also.. you should be able to get the plug w/ 12" pigtail or so. They call them "repair connectors" I am getting one for my Megacab(about $14 for the 12pin connector VES DVD/Screen) . Dealer uses them to repair harnesses etc.

pac2006 05-24-2008 11:27 AM

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

I'd like a manual for sure:DHow complete is it? Like what does it cover? Thats a good idea about the repair connector, I didn't think of that. Now I have to get the dealer to find it in their system. If anyone knows the part number let me know.

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

You can get the service manuals(cd) on Ebay for $10-$50. They cover the entire car and they are pretty thorough. Dealer should be able to tell you the P/N's

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

Ok, My dealer says there is no repair connector for the dvd changer. Does anyone have any part numbers for one? The search continues. Mrfixit, do you have a pic of the plug end of the connector you got? If it is a similar style, I might be able to remove just the pin sockets and insert them in my plug. Thanks.

mrfixit454 05-27-2008 07:02 PM

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

No pix yet.. I ended up finding a harness that is complete from radio to DVD screen/player in my case (VES Megacab).I am waiting for it to be shipped. Its 12 pin on one end (dvd side)and 10 on the other (radio side). Can't you move pins in the connector where you need them? or do you need more wires than are availaible? How about a repair connector for Caravan ot T&C... they use a similar changer.

Do you have a P/N for the lower cable? If so have you searched elsewhere?

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

The pins that I need in the plug have just an open spot where I need a wire. They only installed exactly what was needed and no more. The dealer is tired of hearing from me and they said they have no clue what any of the connectors look like. I have to pull the dvd changer and radio again to take some pics of it. Maybe they use the same style on all their cars. Just different shape plugs. Maybe I could part out a cable for the mega cab to do what I'm trying. The only part numbers I found were on the internet for the same cables that I have. Which would work cause I would take out the pins I need. Its just kinda overpriced. If I can't find anything else that will be my last resort. Thanks.

Good find.. here is from another memeber on a Dodge forum. I would bet that Chrysler uses similat connectors between vehicles. These are for the Dodge RAK radio and VES DVD player.

This is from a MOPAR website that your dealer has access to with out a vin number. It is for repair connectors. This is only for a connector, pins, and about 12 inches of wire. You will have to run you own wire to the radio to make the rest of the connections.

To me this site looks like repair connectors by mopar for everything. Check it out. http://dto.vftis.com/mopar/main.asp

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

Its having problems loading but is probably a great site

My dealer tried to tell me the repair connectorthat was 12 pins was for a Pacifica.. which it may be but others said it was for the VES player is a durango. Which gets back to my original assumption.. for the radios, screens, DVD's, the 12, 10, 16, 22 pins are probably the same size dimension pins

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

I think it is. I just ordered it through my dealer. $25 is a bit high, but whatever. It looks like you can get any connector you want. I have read so many post about how you can't buy just the connector, and yet there it is. Anyone could easily add aftermarket screens or what they want. Thanks Mrfixit for your input. My project will continue soon.

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

I sent an email to moparpartsamerica.com and they added the part number to the site. And its cheaper there. Check it out, now you can buy it online. Sweet. :D

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

Please keep us posted and great finds on the connnector sites etc. THis has been an interesting topic for me because you are doing sometheng never done before on this car to my knowledge.

I take a special interest in this because..
1. Dealer says we can't do this
2. Delaer says we can't buy these types of parts
3. It's custom work and paves the way for other to try

My parts manager told me I could not add the VES to my Megacab although others have done it to Quad Cabs. Hopefully I am paving the way for others as well. I learned some of how this all works when I tried to add factory Uconnect to my PAC. Most of the wiring was there and I got a mirror off of ebay pretty cheap but I could not find a ucoonect module that was reasonable.. they are all about $500 for the Pacifica PCI based bus system. Never found one use either. Now we may sell the car becase we bought my uncles 2005 Town and Country. We needed more space for our 3 kids. The PAC was too tight. The good thing is the mirror will work in the van but I still need to research the module.

Let us know how it turns out.

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

Thats funny because I was thinking about putting in the factory u connect as well. This kind of stuff is fun for me. The dealer seems to never be on your side, just because they don't have a clue, doesn't mean it can't be done. I may end up getting the mopar accessories u connect.

I was looking at my new lcd and noticed 4 bad pixels, 2 green, 2 red. I got it from a good dealer on ebay and I hope he will replace it for me. Bad pixels just bug me.

My wife wanted the mini van until we saw the pac, then we both wanted the pac. No all wheel drive option on the mini vans either.

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

I installed the 900mhz transmitter. It works well and sounds good. I added 4 pins to the 12 pin connector in the dvd changer. I put on RCAs on the left and right audio. I did not use the IR enable because the audio output switches on and off with the factory remote. Another cool thing is that the factory headphones work with it also. I am going to make an adaptor for an aftermarket screen next. I see no reason why I can t make affordable adaptors that have Audio, Video, and Power. I will post pics soon.

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

Hello, this is my first post, I just signed up.I love forum groups like this, and have used them for all myvehicles to diagnose, discuss, and tinker.I have fallen into this same problem, buying theRF monitor and headphone setup for my IR system. (Why do I have to be so cheap?) Ihave scavenged a transmitter from a broken RBU that I am going to try to use for an RF setup, but in my researching the wiring schematics I noticedyou said you added 4 pins to the IR 6 disk changer adding RCAs to the left and right audio. From what i see in my '05 service manual is left(pin 3), right(pin 9), and common signal (headphone) return(pin 8). What was the 4th pin addedfor, or might you have a different changer, and have separate returns?

Any help on this is greatly appreciated, and i looked at the PA setup, and i may just opt for that!

pac2006 07-15-2008 07:09 PM

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

You only need 3 pins. I was going to use the 4th for the IR enable. I like the 900 mhz transmitter and headphone I have. I like how it is setup now. If you need help, let me know.

RE: 900 mhz transmitter/dvd setup

I got the Power Acoustiks RF set and got it installed. I have to agree it works great, and you are right, the factory headphones do work! My next project is a mirror video or sun visor video to tap into the system so i can easily see the screen to get the movie going for a 4 year old.
Thank you for your reply!

I'm glad this info has been useful. You got the same RF set as me? It is kind of a pain starting the video when you can't see it. Keep us posted on what you do.

Bring it!

pac2006 04-26-2009 08:34 PM

I'm bringing this one back. I have lots of plans for my pac, and heres one I'm working on now. A small screen for the front passenger. I had a hard time finding a suitable screen, but this will do for now. I have 4 wireless headphones so now all can enjoy the trips more.

mrfixit454 04-27-2009 01:21 AM

That is very cool, I had thought of putting one on the visor so the wife could set the movies for the kids from the front seat. Now that we are selling the car, I may have to do it to the minivan. Keep up the good work.
