Cold air intakes and E3 spark plugs
I haven't given up on her just yet, well as long as they can fix the trans shudder. I have some opinionated questions. Has anyone upgraded to the new E3 spark plugs and if so how do they compare to other replacements? The "Horsepower" show recorded like 8 HP increase over stock by using them on their mule motor. I've also been looking for an aftermarket cold air system to help the engine breathe a little better, but all I've really found is K&N's replacement filter. Have any Pac owners had some luck with this? Thanks.
E3 spark plugs are great, not only do they inrease horsepower but they also make the engine run atleast twice as smooth
we installed these in our old '89 dakota
BEFORE: it used to idle so hard it would shake the mirrors
AFTER: it idled so smooth it just about purred with the addition of a little horsepower gain and incresed fuel efficiency

I was checking out the oem setup for the air intake, and it looks like it inhales right behind the passengers side fog light. I think when I take out the oem air box, I should have a straight shot with some smooth-wall tubing with a filter on the end. Nobody makes a kit but I think I can spend a few bucks at the hardware store and use an old K&N filter I have. I'll keep it posted. The E3's are on order...
Hey, I made my own cold-air induction system and had a muffler shop put on a high flow resignator and a muffler. I haven't done my homework on the E3 sparkplugs, but I put iridium plugs in and the car and it gets better fuel mileage. (NOT TO MENTION IT WILL TRY TO SMOKE THE TIRES FROM A STANDSTILL...LOL)
It is my impression that resonators take the cool sounds out. If you want more noise, the resonator comes out. I experienced this on a 1985 Toyota Cressida and 2001 Dodge Ram Diesel. When I took them off these cars, more noise and it was worse on the truck at 2000 rpms. It was not much louder on the Toyota.

I just have an annoying "drone" at highway speeds. Usually I have to slow down or speed up by a few hundred rpm's to get it to stop. I'm not a big fan of this cumbersome exhaust that's on it now, too many components and too restrictive, not to mention that the muffler is huge. I talked to a guy at the local exhaust shop and he's gonna bend me a piece of stainless tube to make the air intake. All I have to do is drill a hole for the pvc pipe and attach the air filter. I'll have pics when it's done.
