By accident i left my gas cap off and drove 180 miles. The fuel mileage went up bu better than 3 to 4 mpg! I was amazed, but concerned about something going wrong with the emissions. Well the same thing happened about a week later, and with th esame better fuel milage. So... I started lust letting the cap just rest on the nech opening, and my mileage has gotten as high as 26 mpg on regular fuel (which I use all the time). Has anyone else tried this? I am not suggesting any one do this, but if you do let me know your results. This is on the level and not a joke!

I am surprised you did not get a check engine light as this happens on some cars. Did you fiil back up and check the mileage by a calculator??

 

The check engine light came on today after about 800 miles. I will close the cap and see if it goes out. I do see the resulys and why the light came on, but why so much increased gas mileage? Any idea?
