Default Navigation Problem

My navigation is working sporadically but usually works more intermittently if the weather is warm. It says: "Error reading DVD-ROM Please Check the Disc"

I've removed the disc, cleaned it and put it back in on numerous occasions. I recently had the DVD rear seat entertainment disc changer replaced. Would this be related in any way? Or, does the computer need a reset? I've also noticed when the Navigation is working that sometimes it has me in a location that is close but not accurate to where I am actually driving - then it adjusts after a few minutes. Could it be the antenna or whatever it uses to communicate with the satellite?

Is it expensive to fix?

Default RE: Navigation Problem

I have the same problem in my Jeep Commander. I have called the following:
Alpine Tech 1-800 832-4101 (hardware Mfg.)
NavTech 1-866-628-8372 (software disks)
Also my Dealer
I told them that since the vehicle was purchased the disk had not been removed. The version I have is AC, and there are at least three versions since. (The latest to be released in January) On inspection there does appear to be some very faint scratches at one edge. My curiosity is that the DVD loads in the morning when in the Driveway, and continues to work until I get close to work (Roughly 12 miles down the road) When near the dealer it works ok, its just this area near the job. The Alpine Tech was useless he said it had to do with time, ie after 10 or fifteen minutes, but this is bogus as it works on the drive home after leaving the work location and it worked yesterday after driving to the dealer, so it would seem to be area related not time.
My concern is that I didn't want to spend 200 bucks in an "Easter Egg" approach to trouble shooting and Alpine Tech could not give me any ideas as to how to trouble shoot. Their idea of Tech support is to pick up someone outside a 7/11 that can answer the phone. Eg.
How often does the DVD read/write data, Answer "Don't know"
Is there a cleaner recommended, Answer "Don't know"
Do you retain any old version DVD's - no we only answer questions on how to access information.

NavTec was equally worthless. They only sell "New" disks. I asked if I could purchase a replacement of the old AC disk, but was informed they do not keep those around... This is a bald faced LIE. I don't know anyone that writes code that doesn't keep a copy.

Suggestion to Chrysler... If the owner supplies you with the serial number of a failed disk, REPLACE it a Blank DVD cost 35 cents. Dump the one's and zero's on that DVD and charge 10 or 20 bucks and keep the customer base happy. How about a Class Action Lawsuit?

Short of the Chrysler Dealer LOANING me a disk(Not gonna happen)and allowing me to drive to and from work in an attempt to isolate the problem there is no alternative. You pay the price and if it doesn't work "Tough Luck" buy a new 2000 dollar unit.

These are not satisfactory answers, and I'm not a happy camper. If you have better luck please post your results and techniques.

I have an 04 Pacifica that is having issues with the Navigation. I upgraded the disk to a newer version a couple of years ago, and it worked fine up until recently. Now it no longer tracks correctly, or allows for address entry. I cleaned the disk but it still behaves erratically. Do I need another newer disk, or is this something else?
