Default 5 speed wont drive over 2400rpm?

Got a 05 limited 5 speed manual 2.4 non-turbo. It has many issues but the one really bothering me is it wont let me go over about 2400rpm while driving. Doesnt matter what gear or speed while driving when it gets to about 2400rpm it cuts back and chugs like im hitting the rev limit or governer. I did notice a bushing? missing that connects a cable to a lever on the trans could this be it? What would that part be called? What else could it be?

Take a look at this link regarding the shifter bushings. https://www.allpar.com/threads/pt-cr...ost-1085254506

The spark plugs should be copper Champion RE16MC, .040 inch gap. They are to be replaced every 30,000 miles. Excessively worn plugs could prevent rpms over 2400. This motor runs best with the oem copper and does not respond well to platinum, iridium, or exotic tip configurations. NGK copper are acceptable but other brands (autolite, acdelco, etc) may not be effective.

It is possible it could be a clogged catalytic converter or restricted exhaust limiting the rpms to 2400. There are a number of ways to determine if this the case

Another possibility is a failing fuel pump that cannot deliver enough fuel to run over 2400 rpms.

Side note, that battery cable desperatly needs to be cleaned of corrosion. With this evidence of corrosion, check that the ground points on the driver side strut tower are clean and tight.
