Default PT Cruiser liftgate issue

I have been researching what seems to be a very common issue with the liftgate on the Gen2 PT Cruiser.

I am trying to resolve the issue with 2010 PT Cruiser that has a liftgate that does not open. While it is possible that the issue could be with the actuator, in all likely hood it is the pressure handle that has become faulty.

At this point, I have not confirmed what exactly the issue as I do not have the original factory remote to try and open it.

I have read that people have fixed this issue with a momentary switch. I was wondering if the switch will not work to open the vehicle when the vehicle has been locked?

You must first unlock the vehicle with the button on the key before an add-on switch will work. Disconnect the existing pressure switch when you install the new one,, as one of its failure modes is "shorted" which would make the add-on switch inoperative.

Thank you for the reply. I knew if I waited, someone would answer me.....
I actually found someone that could program a key for me and I am able to open
the lift gate with just the key. So I did not need to add a switch.

Good! That's the easiest way. The key for the PT convertibles and various Jeep and Dodge models has a hatch release button that works on the PT Cruiser sedans from 2006-2010.

I have a 2007 Limited Cruiser and today the liftgate will only open when I insert the key into the lock. Merely unlocking the car will not allow me to open the hatch. I have to insert the key into the liftgate, turn the key, then lift the hatch. Any ideas as to how I can fix this? Thanks.

its likely the actuator that controls the door lock part for the rear.

Check the wiring to the rear hatch where it passes from the body to the hatch. A few years back I found a number of broken wires in the flex boot. The boot pops off easily and will allow one to inspect the length of wires in the boot.
